Jen said...: I attended a Seder Passover service once in college. Interesting perspective. I often wonder if I was alive during the time of Christ would I immediately recognize him as the Messiah or would it take time.

Jesus born into the nation of Israel observed the mosaic law covenant, which included the ten commandments, and this memorial passover celebration: "And it must occur that when your sons say to you, 'What does this service mean to you?' then you must say, 'It is the sacrifice of the passover to Jehovah, who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when he plagued the Egyptians, but he delivered our houses.'"- Ex 12:26,27. Jesus upheld this law perfectly, and on the evening before his death, Jesus met with his disciples to observe his last Passover meal. Afterward, Jesus with his faithful 11 apostles, instituted the Lord's Evening Meal, saying, "Keep doing this in remembrance of me."-Luke 22:19. The Passover, was commemorated only once a year, on the anniversary date of Nisan 14. The Lord's Evening Meal, also an anniversary, would now be held only on Nisan 14. Paul quoted Jesus as saying regarding the cup, "Keep doing this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me, for as often as you eat this loaf and drink this cup, you keep on proclaiming the death of the Lord, until he arrives. -1 Corith 11:25, 26. "Often" can refer to something done only once a year, especially when done for many years. (Heb 9:25) Nisan 14 was the day on which Christ gave his literal body as a sacrifice on the torture stake and poured out his lifeblood for forgiveness of sins. That was the the day of "the death of the Lord" and the date we commemorate. Interestingly, Paul encouraging the congregation to live clean lives, said: "For, indeed, Christ our passover has been sacrificed." (1Corith 5:7) He likens Christ Jesus to the Passover lamb.

So, Jehovah's Witnesses around the world gather to observe the memorial of Jesus death on Nisan 14, just as he commanded us to do, remembering we were bought from bondage of sin and death at a very high price, the blood of Jesus Christ.; April 9, 2009 at 11:39 PM
